Medicare Supplement Plan N
Medigap Plan N
Plan N is one of the 10 standardized medicare supplement plans that is available. It’s premiums are also lower than Plans G & F.
With Plan N, there is a copay when the policyholder sees a doctor. After the Part B deductible is met for the Medicare calendar year, the copay is up to $20. There is a $50 copay at the emergency room, but this is waived if the policyholder is admitted.
In addition, Part B excess charges are not covered on plan N. “Non-participating providers” may bill excess charges up to 15% above the Medicare-allowed payment amount in a process referred to as “balance billing”. These charges rarely occur and can be easily avoided if the policyholder goes to a provider that takes “Medicare assignment.”
Quick Facts
- In 2022, 98% of providers who provide Medicare-covered services accept Medicare assignment.1
- In 2022, 97.7% of fee schedule claims were paid on assignment.1 The remaining 2.3% of claims from that figure would be subject to balance billing on Plan N.
